Stem cell contact lenses cure blindness in less than a month

Here's something that people with poor or no vision will be excited about: three patients had their sight restored in less than a month by contact lenses cultured with stem cells.

All three patients were blind in one eye. The researchers extracted stem cells from their working eyes, cultured them in contact lenses for 10 days, and gave them to the patients. Within 10 to 14 days of use, the stem cells began recolonizing and repairing the cornea.

By JESS BRAVIN

A federal appeals court in Chicago ruled Tuesday that the Second Amendment doesn't bar state or local governments from regulating guns, adopting the same position that Judge Sonia Sotomayor, President Barack Obama's nominee to the Supreme Court, did when faced with the same question earlier this year.

IRS tax revenue falls along with taxpayers' income
By John Waggoner, USA TODAY
Federal tax revenue plunged $138 billion, or 34%, in April vs. a year ago — the biggest April drop since 1981, a study released Tuesday by the American Institute for Economic Research says.

When the economy slumps, so does tax revenue, and this recession has been no different, says Kerry Lynch, senior fellow at the AIER and author of the study. "It illustrates how severe the recession has been."

Guns are up in D.C., violence is down

About a year ago, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down 30 years of social experimentation in Washington, D.C., by declaring that the district's de facto ban on gun ownership is unconstitutional.

The city's gun laws were so strict that a security guard could not get the permission to own a gun, hence the lawsuit on the constitutionality of the district's statutes.
